Brush Up on Dental Care Basics!

June 10, 2020

People start losing their baby teeth when they are about 6 years old, with the final baby tooth falling out by 12. Considering that the average American lives until at least 75, that’s quite a long time to keep your teeth in good health. Oral health begins with clean teeth. Keeping the area where your teeth meet your gums clean can prevent gum disease, while keeping your tooth surfaces clean can help you stave off cavities and gum disease.

At the office of Smiles 4 A Lifetime, our experienced dentists are well equipped to provide you with the highest level of care to preserve and maintain your oral health. We utilize state-of-the-art knowledge and technology to plan and perform your care with the utmost precision.

Perform these tooth-brushing basics:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. Clean your tongue, which harbors bacteria, with a toothbrush or tongue scraper.
  • Use a fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush that fits your mouth comfortably. An electric or battery-operated toothbrush can reduce plaque and gingivitis more than manual brushing.
  • Gently brush with circular short back-and-forth motions. Brushing with hard bristles can hurt your gums.
  • Store your toothbrush in an upright position and allow it to air-dry.
  • Get a new toothbrush or replacement head for your electric or battery-operated toothbrush every three months.
  • Floss at least once daily. Floss reaches the bacteria and food particles in the tight spaces between your teeth and under the gum line that a toothbrush can’t. Using a water irrigator, such as a WaterPik, right afterward is even better.

At the office of Smiles 4 A Lifetime, we offer a clear picture of all the options available to you and deliver the results you expect. For more information on all of our services, please call today.
